Science Week - parents afternoon

We had an open afternoon during science week and some of our parents came in to join in with our experiments.

We sorted beans and looked at them using magnifying glasses and a microscope.

We made plants from lots of different materials.

We predicted which vegetables would be the best at floating, then tested our predictions.

Thanks to all the parents that came in and joined our experiments.

Science Week - Pirate Pushes and Pulls

Our second show was all about pushes and pulls - Pirate Pete was looking for his treasure and we had to help him find it. We helped row the boat over to the island, find something to help him look for his lost key and then work out the best material to unload the boat quickly.

Pete checking the map.

Mmm - magnets could be useful finding the key!

The treasure!

Science Week

As part of our science week we have been really lucky to watch two shows by our visitors from Birmingham Thinktank. This show was called Colour Me A Rainbow and was all about light and colour.

We looked at sources of light and made a puppet show using a projector and some cut-out puppets. The show was very good and we all learnt a lot about light.

Growing Beans!

Beans!

Our topic this half term includes looking at plants and life cycles. As part f our literacy we have been looking at information boos and are now writing our own bean diaries - of course we have to grow beans to write about them and here are some pictures of us 'planting' our beans. We have used see through cups and pushed the seeds next to some kitchen roll so that the bean seeds can get water but we can see how they grow - look out for the next lot of photos when the beans have started growing!

Making sure the bean is pushed down.

Not too much water!
